As part of the annual student exchange program between the Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium in Erlangen and its Turkish partner school, Besiktas Anadolu Lisesi in Istanbul, tenth-grade students visited NHR@FAU. This year’s exchange focused on “AI in the classroom and beyond—opportunities and challenges.”

During a previous visit to the partner school in Istanbul in October 2025, students were introduced to the concepts of “AI and education” through a series of lectures and workshops. These sessions highlighted that, while AI offers significant opportunities, it also carries risks, underscoring the importance of critical thinking and responsible use.

On Tuesday, April 21, 22 students came to NHR@FAU. Professor Wellein presented the role of NHR@FAU as a center for high-performance computing, AI, and machine learning, and explained how NHR@FAU, together with the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, operates the BayernAI infrastructure. AI/ML expert Martin Mayr presented the areas of expertise of NHR@FAU and discussed how they support researchers in using supercomputer systems.

The event concluded with a tour of the Helma supercomputer, which, as part of the BayernAI initiative at FAU, provides the infrastructure for pioneering AI applications.
