It is our pleasure to host a talk by Dr. Franz-Josef Pfreundt from Fraunhofer ITWM about a special-purpose processor design that will be part of the upcoming EPI (European Processor initiative) CPU.

Title: The STX Processor – Hardware and Programming

The talk will be in English or German, depending on the attendees.

Abstract:

Starting from commercial software for solving the wave equation (RTM), we have been working for many years on the efficient scalable implementation of this stencil code. The STX processor is a new processor design that translates our experience as users into a suitable, energy-efficient architecture, omitting any superfluous components (i.e., hardware-software co-design). In the talk we want to briefly describe the path of development (which started in since 2009), explain the inner workings of the architecture, and go into detail about programming, which has been simplified a lot.

Date and time: Tuesday, March 9, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
