Monthly HPC Café: Power and energy consumption of HPC systems  (September 17, hybrid event)

The next HPC Cafe takes place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. as a hybrid event. As always, there will be plenty of time to get in touch with your favorite HPC group. We invite you to come to RRZE to have coffee and cake with other supercomputing enthusiasts.

The event will start with the open coffee chat and Q&A, at 4:00 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., the presentation will begin.

Location:  RRZE (Martensstr. 1), seminar room 2.049 and Zoom online session (from 4:30 pm, https://fau.zoom.us/j/69439931483)

Focus topicPower and energy consumption of HPC systems

Speaker: Dr. Georg Hager, NHR@FAU

Abstract: In this talk we will show how much power and energy is consumed by HPC clusters and how the runtime and performance of applications influence these numbers. We will also give some general insights about the tuning knobs that are at a user’s disposal for reducing the energy cost of computing, and how computing centers can impose restrictions on hardware and software usage to enforce energy-saving measures.
