As announced in our February 2026 newsletter, our reliable workhorse cluster “Meggie,” inaugurated in 2017, has finally gone out of service on February 15. Meggie was the default Tier-3 compute resource for countless HPC customers of RRZE and later NHR@FAU. After nine years of operation, hardware failures and low performance compared to current platforms would make any further operation uneconomical.

Tier-3 customers who were still running jobs on Meggie are requested to migrate to Woody. For more challenging workloads, the Fritz cluster is also available. Since Meggie’s parallel file system was taken offline already some years ago, data migration is not required.
