The Euro-Par conference is a well-established venue for presenting and discussing research on parallel computing in Europe. In association with the Euro-Par 2019 conference in Göttingen, the workshop “PMACS – Performance Monitoring and Analysis of Cluster Systems” was organized by Thomas Gruber from Erlangen Regional Computing Center (RRZE). The workshop offered presentations and exchange of experience about various solutions on the collection, transmission, storage, evaluation, and visualization of runtime data about the hard- and software of whole cluster systems.
In his keynote, Stephance Eranian from Google gave an introduction to hardware performance counting in recent and future Intel CPU architectures and discussed the performance analysis methods employed in Google’s computing centers. In talks from industry and research, comprehensive monitoring infrastructures and new methods for analyzing the collected data were introduced. The slides of the talks can be found on the web page.
Since the attendee feedback was very positive, a retake of the workshop at Euro-Par 2020 in Warsaw is planned.
